No waste mini collection blog hop

 Hi all,

Unfortunately I don't have pictures.   I have not been able to get this project done.   I have some how injured my knee, and I can't be on my feet for very long.  My right leg is swollen to twice it's normal size.

So, I will just tell you that I love these patterns for the 2 things I have tried.   The directions are easy to read and follow.

I am hoping to be able to get on my feet a bit today, but if I am on them too long, they just constantly throb.

So,. Please check out the other bloggers and see what they have to share.

No waste mini collection blog hop

When I saw the announcement about a blog hop with a no waste collection of children's clothing, it definitely piqued my curiosity.     So I decided to try it.  This blog hop is hosted by Thread Faction Studio and I am glad to be a part of it.

The pattern for the basic blouse, which I am featuring today, is cut in 1 long rectangle.   The neckline that you cut out is used for the pocket.  I opted not to put the pocket on as this blouse will be used to wear under a jumper.

I didn't get a chance to have a granddaughter try this blouse on, so, I will tell you a bit about the pattern.

The pattern comes in a file that you can use a projector with.  It also comes with a file for printing on your home computer.   This is the file I use, but since I don't have a printer, I just go to the library to print mine.

I print all the sizes and not do the layer option.   My reason for this is I then have all my sizes in one, and then I can adjust as I need to, and it is easier for me when I sew for 4 or 9 grandkids.

The pattern is very easy to follow.

The blouse is a dolman sleeve blouse.    I am definitely not great at flat lay pictures.   I will definitely do an update on my blog after I get a picture of my granddaughter wearing it.  They will all be here on Monday as that is when we are celebrating the 4th of July.

Please join these other bloggers to see what they have done.

SWAP - SEWING WITH A PLAN

Wow!!!! It has been a long while since I posted here.   I need to get better at it.   And that is where SWAP comes in.   What is SWAP?  So glad you asked. SWAP is Sewing With A Plan.    Now, I am not a planner kind of person.  But, I have found that if I have at least an idea of what I want to do, then I do better.    I do even better if that plan is written out.

So this SWAP idea came from my friend Erin over at https://averylanesewing.com/

On her facebook page she is hosting a SWAP for sewing a Mic and match wardrobe for the 18" dills, such as American Girl.    Since I have 3 granddaughters that play with these dolls, and they would like clothes for them, I decided to do this.    This SWAP starts with choosing items to make and what fabrics you are using.    Because this is a challenge, we have to use a book by Erin called Doll Days.  We also submit a plan, knowing it can change, with what clothes we are making and what fabrics.

I am taking a bit different of a twist for my holiday sewing.   In the past, I have been known to sew all day on Christmas Eve and usually late into the night.  Sometimes even get up early on Christmas morning and finish.   Every year I say not this year.  I will be finished early.  Well this year has to be the year.   Do to a high number of Covid cases and some of the family at high risk, we have decided, at this time, to not have everyone come for Christmas.  So, I have to have packages done for each family a few days before Christmas and our kids can go to his office and pick them up.

I have been taking the time today to pull some fabrics for some of the projects I am doing.

Flannel and pajama patterns

Fabric for doll clothes

Patterns for doll clothes

There are clothing items I want to make for the grandkids as well.   Yes. I know I can go buy the items.  But when I have seen things I have made, be passed from one kid to another, and how much they love to wear things I make and they tell their friends that grandma made it and how proud they are, then it makes me want to keep doing it.   So I will.

I will definitely be sharing the things I make.

Doll dress ready for gifting

Overalls and jumper I want to make for the 2 oldest granddaughters
Doll jogging pants ready for gifting.

So this list is not extensive.   Things will change.  If I find I have more time, more will get done.

So, do you have fun plans or things you would like to do for Christmas. I would love to hear.

sew long summer blog tour #2

We're kicking off the Sew Long Summer blog tour this week. We have some really fun and inspiring creations for you again this year.

Sew Long Summer is all about getting those transitional wardrobe pieces ready; finishing up all those things we meant to make this summer; and well, basically whatever Sew Long Summer means to you.

Welcome back.   I usually try to share clothing items on this blog, but I have not has much time for sewing clothing.   So today, I want to share about this fun quilt I made.

This quilt was made for my bosses new little boy. My boss is a golf addict, and when I found out they were having a boy, I decided a golf quilt would be fun.

Their little girl like a golf as well, so I may make one in pinks and purples for her.  She can use it when she snuggles with her daddy on the couch and they are watching golf.

I have a more detailed blog about it here https://kathyskwiltsandmore.blogspot.com/2019/09/its-tee-time-baby-quilt.html?m=1

Please check out the other bloggers this week. They are all sharing some fabulous makes.

The full tour includes these talented sewists, so I hope you'll follow along and comment on their posts this week.

Sew Long Summer is all about getting those transitional wardrobe pieces ready; finishing up all those things we meant to make this summer; and well, basically whatever Sew Long Summer means to you.

I had great plans for summer sewing and great plans for back to school clothes for grandkids.  Unfortunately, it hasn't happened.  So, I got thinking about what I could share today.

With fall right around the corner, that means Christmas is right around the corner as well.

Today I decided to share a pillowcase that I am doing for 1 of my grandkids.  I will be doing some for all of them, there are 8, but the youngest is just 2 weeks, so she might not get one right away.  These pillowcases are so easy to make and one of the best things about making things for my grandkids is they absolutely love them.   I could write out the directions, but instead I will give you a link to the directions I use. http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/bags-pillows-gifts/pillows/roll-it-pillowcase-pattern

Please follow these blogger friends of mine for some awesome makes.  It just may give you some ideas.

Seen and sewn blog tour

Today is my day for the blog hop and I want to thank Arielle at www.seenandsewnpatterns.com for the pattern and Melissa at www.mahlicadesigns.wordpress.com for hosting.

Welcome to the Seen & Sewn Together blog tour.

Arielle from Seen & Sewn Patterns is creating patterns with a focus on encouraging people to join the #handmaderevolution by sewing their own handmade wardrobe. A nice group of sewing bloggers have joined together to share with you how we’ve taken the Seen & Sewn Patterns and let our creativity loose with them. We want to inspire you whether you’re just starting or well on your way to building your handmade wardrobe.

The pattern I am reviewing today is the Cozy.   It is a nice sweater pattern but can also be used as a swimsuit cover up or even a robe.   The way it is designed is for a hi low look but you could easily shorten the back and make it the same length all the way around.   You could wear it with anything.

I am making mine out of a stretch lace that has been in my sewing room for a while.

I apologize that mine isn't done yet, I have had lots of crazy work hours and family stuff.   I will get it done in the next few days and share it here and on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Sew-Cute-Couture-By-Kathy-626603334360676/?ref=br_rs.

The extra fun part for you is that we have a prize pack giveaway from Seen & Sewn Patterns that you can enter below. The prize pack for US residents includes 1 pattern of choice, a Slow Fashion Tee, and a Slow Fashion Pin. For our international readers the prize pack would include a copy of all Seen & Sewn PDF Patterns. Bonus! All readers will receive a coupon code for up to two patterns of choice for $1 each (expires 6/30/19)

The tour includes these talented sewists, so I hope you’ll follow along this week.

Breaking ground blog tour

Today is my stop on the breaking ground blog tour hosted by Melissa at www.mahlicadesigns.wordpress.com

We were told to choose a designer that was new to us.  So, I knew there were lots I had not tried.  I happened to get an email with a list of some free patterns, and I saw a Free T-shirt pattern for boys.  Great. I had to get a birthday gift made for a grandson, so I decided to share that.

The pattern is from Emily at www.lifesewsavory.com.  she has been around for a while, but I had just heard of her.  I love when free patterns are offered as it gives you a chance to try out that designer.

The pattern I chose is the boys t-shirt pattern.  It went together very fast, and the directions were very easy to follow. I needed fast and easy because I have been working crazy overtime.

She has many other patterns I would like to try.  I will definitely use her patterns again.

By the way, my grandson loved his new shirt.

Please check out what the other bloggers have done.

52 week sewing challenge week 1

Well, that was a fast week.   I have been working on organizing my sewing stuff, but not in my space.  I sew downstairs, usually, but the last few weeks it has been in my kitchen.  It is hard to sew in there, because I do not always clean up my projects.

So, I do have some pictures to show of progress being made.   We had a forced remodel due to some sewage flooding through the city sewage lines.

This is the wall where the quilting frame will go.

But, I wanted a finished project, so I made a quick throw pillow.  I make them in an envelope style, easily removable and easy to store so I can change often.

I hope you have had a chance to sew this week. I would love to hear what you have made or are working on.

I love when you leave comments.

52 weeks of sewing challenge

In 2018 I started doing this, but life got in the way.  This year I am trying again and will try to do better.  So, what is the challenge all about?  Really, to get you sewing and sharing each week, and there are sponsors to give away a prize or two each week.  For me, I want to be sewing things.  Clothing for myself and my grandkids.  I have big ideas, all these awesome plans, but I am not always a finisher.  So, I am hoping that by sharing my goals, I will accomplish them.

With the 52 Week Sewing challenge, we are given a challenge each week.  There  is a list for the year, so you can be planning ahead.  I have taken the first quarter challenges and put them on trello, an app that a friend told me about, then I can make a checklist.  I have also put them on my calendar to hopefully, help me look at things on a regular basis and see where I am.  We have to post each Sunday, by a certain time, if we accepted the challenge or went rogue and a picture of what we made.

The challenge starts on Dec. 31.  The first challenge?  Organize your sewing area.  This one is a bit of a challenge for me, as I am getting my sewing room, actually my whole basement remodeled, after having a sewage flood.  But, since everything from my sewing room was thrown in garbage bags, I am getting all of that organized.  I have a spreadsheet list of my fabrics, what they may be intended for, and the yardage that I have.  Some fabrics are specifically for clothes and some are for quilts and clothes.    All of my fabrics are then going in clear plastic totes, and each tote is numbered.  This way, I can look at what I want to make, find my pattern and fabric, and get it organized.

I currently have about 9 totes of fabrics, 2 totes that are projects to be quilted, and 2 totes of projects I am currently working on.

Today, I will take time to choose what my projects will be for the next month, find my fabrics, and start  getting  things prepared.   I like that we can work ahead of schedule, as I work full time and it will help me.  Some projects may be bigger than others, depending on what I choose to make.

I could use some new clothes.  My hubby suggested I make a dress for myself.  It has been a while since I have sewn for myself, but I hate buying clothes.  I can get a much better fit, if I sew for myself.  So, I am going to work on this challenge this year.

Would you like to learn more about the challenge or join in?  You can find the info by going to Facebook and searching 52 Week Sewing challenge.
I am going to try each week to share on this blog, but if you follow my facebook page, Sew Cute Couture by Kathy, the projects will be on there.

Here is hoping I have a very productive  2019.

Halloween Costume Tour with seams sew lo

I am so excited to share this with you today.  This was actually made a few years ago for one of my daughters and now my oldest granddaughter can wear it.  Poodle skirts are so much fun.

This skirt is a bit big for her, but there was no time for adjusting as we were swamped with taking care of damage done by a sewer line clog.  I did lose 10 yards of cotton lycra, as it was on my storage room floor, because I had been using it. When I get my sewing room organized, after repair work, I will have a table just for cutting.  It did hit my sewing room, so, right now

Back to the poodle skirt.  I used Simplicity 8774, which I think is out of print, but Simplicity 5401 is very similar.    It would be fun to add a cute top to this and a jacket, specifically a pink bomber jacket with Pink Ladies written on the back.  Yes, I am a Grease fan.  But, I did not have time.   Fabric used, it seems like it was a felt.  It feels like that.

I hope you are having a fun time getting ready for Halloween.   What are you or your children or grandchildren dressing up as?  I love to read comments, and try to reply fast.

Please check out my friends who are also blogging today.

    T shirts for my Monsters

Welcome to my day on the sewing by Ti blog hope for the Monster Tour.

This is a shirt that was made for my 4-year old grandson. He loves it! I didn't have time to sew something as i am working tons of overtime, as in 14 - 16 hour days, so  my daughter went and bought a white shirt from Wal-Mart and decorated it using fabric markers.

The best thing about doing a t shirt like this is the fact that the children can help.

I am so excited for this tour.  I love sewing for my grandkids, and it is fun to feature boys and the fun things you can make for them. Back to School Boys Blog Tour hosted by Made for Little Gents We're making back to school fashion fun for boys with all these makes!
I appreciate Sunni at Made for little gents for putting this blog tour together.

Today I am featuring a raglan pattern from www.petitestitchery.com.  the pattern is Ragtag Raglan for boys.
